And on a fine spring day, they decided to take on each other’s work… and did they live happily ever after?

This is not the end of the story you read in fairy tales — but the beginning of an exciting plot, where the CMO tries to keep up with the sales target, and the CSO bears the weight of the marketing crown for a full moon cycle.

What happens next is both surprising and exciting!

While this might sound like a perfect corporate prank, it definitely is not. Perhaps each of them will gain perspective into the other’s work and the relevance it holds in the bigger picture.

Will the CMO realise that brand awareness — if it does not produce quality leads and closed deals — cannot keep fueling the business? Maybe!

Will the CSO come to understand that pressure cannot achieve what patience can? Will they realise that building trust with customers takes time? Perhaps, yes!

What I can tell you is that they will certainly start appreciating and recognising each other's work — to the point where they might even open their eyes to the interdependence they share.

The never-ending tiff might end once and for all — the sales team will never fail to applaud the groundwork done by the marketing team to create a firm hold on the customers, and the marketing team will never cease to be amazed by the amount of pressure sales can withstand and the graciousness they show in desperate times.

A possibility: the finger-pointing will come to a halt, and it may not be long before both parties find each other to be two sides of the same lucky coin that keeps the business winning with each passing day.

Food for thought: Aren’t we racing toward the same goal of growth and development? So why not join hands to avoid overstepping each other’s boundaries?
