Feminism in India

The topic of feminism in India has been discussed for ages. At every local tea shop and in every elite coffee lounge, people have been found talking about gender equality, particularly women's rights. Much like the individuals in these two settings who are divided by their class and status, the topic has been perceived in different lights. While a section of society, since the 19th century, has initiated protests in favour of women's education and against the patriarchal shackles, another half of the population has drawn attention to their hues and cries of men being in crisis due to the feminization of society.

Despite the never-ending challenges faced by feminists, the proponents in the current time are trying hard to shed as much light as possible on sexual violence, workplace discrimination, and prejudice in access to education and healthcare. Individuals from different social strata and cultural backgrounds have joined hands and taken to the streets to increase awareness regarding these issues.

In fact, Indian feminists have made significant progress in recent years, leading the government to implement several policies like the Scheme for Adolescent Girls, the One-Stop Centre scheme, and Stand-up India aimed at promoting gender equality. Thanks to activists, women have made strides in a range of fields, from politics to business and science to arts. However, much work related to social equality remains to be done, which makes it imperative for the feminists in India to continue their commendable work in this area.
