An HR’s guide to handling the two M’s in the job: Mayhem and mental health
Let’s begin by applauding the HR employees across the world. We must acknowledge the hard work they do to keep an organization on its feet. Balancing mayhem and mental health simultaneously is, indeed, not for the lighthearted. Imagine making over 50 calls a day to recruit new folks and managing the existing staff, all the while keeping your own emotions in check. Resemble much like the conductor of a symphony orchestra? But how do they do this day in and day out?
They employ a host of strategies that distinguish them as star employees. On a personal level, they set boundaries – work hours and personal time are separated to avoid burnout. They know that being the best in the workspace does not necessarily need overworking but using their wit to their advantage and managing time proportionately to avoid their day job colliding with their personal affairs. Taking breaks throughout the workday to keep mental fatigue at bay is a must for most of the top guns in this field. It is equally crucial for them to lead a healthy lifestyle, which entails nutritious food, adequate sleep, regular exercise, and so on. Some of the exceptional HR leaders often indulge in their hobbies or join meditation classes to keep negativity at arm’s distance. Add to this mix, the urge to learn continuously. This makes the HR employees navigate through each day with ease. The hope of learning something that can add to their career often keeps them going. After all, who does not want to excel in their career?
That being said, let us not overlook the efforts organisations make to keep their HR employees emotionally healthy. Think wellness workshops for HRs designed to address their unique challenges. What's more? A host of fun activities – whether it is a luncheon, a dinner, or a day trip to the zoo – are planned to give them (and all the other staff members) a breath of fresh air. Have you factored in the flexible work arrangements that allow HRs to manage workloads and make time for their domestic affairs? The work-from-home perks further contribute to their well-being. In addition to all these, some companies also encourage open communication regarding mental health, giving their employees a safe space to address their psychological concerns.
Not to mention that regular check-ins are also conducted to assess how the HR staff members are feeling. Any issues that may crop up during these evaluation processes are often resolved promptly. Truth be told, a supportive work culture paired with personal efforts makes it easier for the HRs to navigate the winding paths of the work maze. While it is undeniable that they encounter numerous obstacles, with a little bit of courage and perseverance, they make it to the finish line.
Wondering if you could do the same? Chuck all your doubts and hop on the bandwagon of those who believe in themselves. Soon you will see that you have become a pro in leading a balanced life.
